The Weight of Being “On”

There are seasons when life doesn’t necessarily feel hard. It just feels like there isn’t an off switch.

There are emails to answer, appointments to remember, meals to make, deadlines to meet, people depending on you, and a hundred little decisions that quietly fill every corner of the day. Even the things we love can begin to feel like another item on the to-do list.

Eventually, many of us stop asking ourselves, “How am I doing?”

Instead, we ask, “What still needs to get done?”

The difference may seem small, but it changes the way we move through life.

Productivity has its place, but we weren’t designed to function like machines. We need moments that remind us we’re people before we’re professionals, caregivers, partners, parents, students, or problem-solvers.

Sometimes that moment is five quiet minutes before everyone else wakes up.

Sometimes it’s a deep breath in the parking lot before walking into the next appointment.

Sometimes it’s recognizing that today’s version of “enough” looks different than yesterday’s.

Rest isn’t always about taking a vacation. Sometimes it’s choosing not to measure your worth by everything you accomplished before bedtime.

The work will still be there tomorrow.

You will, too.

A Gentle Reflection

What would change if you believed that your worth wasn’t determined by what you accomplished today?
