Don’t Skip The Celebration

When was the last time you celebrated yourself? Not in an arrogant way. Not in a "look at me" way. In a healthy, honest way.
Many of us spend a lot of time replaying our mistakes. We think about the opportunities that did not work out, the relationships we wish had ended differently, the words we wish we had not said, or the moments where we feel we missed the mark.
We replay those moments so often that they can begin to overshadow everything we have done right. But what if we shifted our perspective? What if we spent more time acknowledging the decisions that helped us grow, heal, and move forward?
If we replay the soundtrack of our lives, we may see that there were decisions we've made that have led to a beautiful melody. Maybe you walked away from a toxic relationship and never looked back. Maybe you applied for the job even though you were scared. Maybe you survived a difficult season, and you were not sure you would make it through. Maybe you sought therapy, set a boundary, asked for help, or started over. Maybe you simply got back up after life knocked you down.
Those moments matter.
In Philippians 4:8, we are encouraged to think about things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. In other words, you have made decisions that are worthy of praise; you can reflect on and celebrate them!
Yet many of us struggle to acknowledge our own growth. We are often our own harshest critics. We can easily list our shortcomings while overlooking the evidence of our strength. The truth is that the voice you hear most often is your own. The way you speak to yourself matters.
What would change if you began adding more celebratory language to your internal dialogue? Instead of focusing only on what went wrong, try reminding yourself:
• I'm proud of myself.
• I made a great decision.
• I never gave up.
• I got back up.
• I handled that better than I used to.
• I've grown.
• I did that!
Growth is not only about identifying what needs to change. It is also about recognizing how far you have come. Take a moment today to celebrate a win, big or small. The fact that you are still here, still learning, still growing, and still trying deserves to be celebrated.
